Gotta try this

In food memories, sweets, to-do list, travel on December 5, 2007 at 1:49 am

I just saw this lovely idea on Madison&Mayberry. When I studied in France, my absolute favorite treat was une crepe a Nutella, (missing some accents there) which I would buy from the small, hole-in-the-wall creperie in the same place as the small school I was attending.

Warm off the griddle, these things were heaven. Sometimes I’d order them with bananas, but usually I’d keep it simple. The warm, supple, creamy crepe melded with the runny Nutella, and the result was a true pick-me-up that was not overly sweet, had a nutty kick and just made me happy.

I’d also order these at a small tea shop that was down the street from my school, where I’d often go to study. To this day, the smell of Earl Grey tea makes me crave one of these treats, which I have not had since I returned seven years ago.

This recipe has to go on my to-do list. It’s not a crepe a Nutella, but it’s a welcome opportunity to use Nutella in a warm dessert.

Wow, just saw this for the first time last night. I’m not one of those people who has an ingrained hatred for Rachel Ray. She’s pretty much the reason I learned to cook, but I’ve graduated from her.

I can’t blame her for wanting to make money, but what I once thought was a tolerable personality has become nightmarishly perky thanks to her being splashed all over daytime TV, Ritz and Wheat Thins boxes and now, apparently, Dunkin’ Donuts television ads. I still think all the people who spend time hating her should give her a break, though, if only because she loves dogs.

This is apparently not news. I found a story in the Boston Globe from way back in March announcing that Ray would be the company’s new spokesperson.

I agree somewhat with comments that Anthony Bourdain made here, about how Ray should be more responsible in what she promotes, especially since she ain’t hurting for cash, but it does seem sort of unAmerican to tell someone to shove it when they’re just making money.

For the record, I much prefer Einstein Bros. coffee to Dunkin or Starbucks. Both of them are way too caffeine-laced for me. I like a more normal brew, otherwise I spend the rest of the day with my head spinning.
