I don’t know what I would do without my food blog addiction. I mean, my typical process when it’s approaching 3-ish and I’m trying to figure out what to make for dinner is, if I’m at home, to flip through my more dependable cookbooks and, usually uninspired, to start surfing the Web.
I’ll type a few ingredients into Epicurious’s search box, or even straight into Google, and often find really good stuff.
But it’s in my random wandering of food blogs that I have scored my biggest hits. Original recipes that I’m not sure I’d find anywhere else, tested, critiqued and ready for the cooking.
Last week, as B and I were preparing to depart on our weekend adventure, I wanted to bake something for our friends, who would be taking care of our dog for the weekend.
I was thinking of making these beautiful chocolate cookies (which are still on my to-do list) from 64 Square-Foot Kitchen, but then I was over at 101 Cookbooks one day (enjoying the video on how to make powerbars and the scenery from Big Sur) when this recipe caught my eye.
Mega scones! What a great idea! You could just form the whole slab of dough the way you wanted and worry about dividing it into servings afterward! This recipe was so easy, and it really came out not too much different-looking from the photo. I’ll have to save this for another time. I’d like to try it with apricot preserves and some almonds in the dough next time.
